ECDPM was established as an independent foundation in 1986 to facilitate international cooperation between developed and developing countries, with a particular focus on relations between the European Union and its partner countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. At the heart of ECDPM’s work is the goal of reducing asymmetries in knowledge, power and resources between developed and developing countries by reinforcing the capacities of public, private and non-profit organisations to better manage their own development and international cooperation. Operating from offices in both Maastricht and Brussels, ECDPM staff and associates undertake activities around three thematic policy programmes: development policy and international relations; economic and trade cooperation; and governance.
